No decision on Proton sale
Malaysia has no decision yet on a possible alliance between car maker Proton Holdings Bhd and a foreign auto firm, Second Finance Minister Tan Sri Nor Mohamed Yakcop said today.
The government said early this year it was talking to several car makers, including Germany's Volkswagen and US giant General Motors Corporation about a possible partnership with loss-making Proton, but missed an end-March deadline to announce a deal.
"We will resolve it soon," he said, declining to elaborate.
Nor Mohamed added the authorities were not worried about a fall in government bond yields, some of which are below the official interest rate.
"This is supply and demand and there is plenty of demand for bonds," he said.
"Bond yields have within the last few weeks gone down 30-40 basis points, depending on which part of the yield curve. We are not unduly concerned about this." - Reuters
